ELECTIONS IN D R C: are not Transparent, not Credible and not ensuring Journalists’ Freedom and Safety
On 29 June at midnight, the Congo’s Highest Media Regulator Body Authority opened the electoral campaign for Presidential and Legislative candidates. 33 presidential candidates as well as thousands of national M-P candidates will task themselves with convincing the officially declared, 25 millions of Congolese voters, by the Independent electoral Commission (CEI). Therefore, Journalist in Distress (JED), with the support of the Netherlands Institute for Southern Africa (NIZA), launched on the same 29 June, its special monitoring programme for the Press Freedom over the whole electoral period. JED wishes to ensure globally that media and journalists, without any discrimination whatsoever, can work freely and safely everywhere, including in polling sites and offices.
