Journalist released on bail after spending 14 days in prison

The editor of Kinshasa-based weekly “Tapis Rouge”, FEU D’OR BOSANGE was released on bail, on 25 September 2006 at 05:00’ p.m. (local time), after having spent 14 days in detention. Bosange will have to appear every Tuesday and Thursday before the Kinshasa/Gombe High Court (TGI).

On 12 September 2006, Bosange was arrested by judiciary inspectors and kept in a TGI cell before being transferred, on 16 September 2006, to a Kinshasa penitentiary “Centre Pénitentiaire et de reeducation de Kinshasa” (CPRK).

The journalist was arrested for publishing, in the 16 August 2006 issue (number 0561) of the weekly “Tapis Rouge”, an article entitled: ”Scandal at DGI”, In which the editor accused Mr. Bokolombe of embezzling funds. These funds reportedly allowed Bokolombe to purchase four luxurious villas throughout Kinshasa. The article also stated that Bokolombe had allegedly offered brand new limousines to girlfriends and to colleagues working for the DGI.

After spending two days in Kinshasa where she met with the President of the Republic, Joseph Kabila, and UN officials, she travelled to Goma on 30 April, joined by Roger Meece, head of the UN Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO).
